Our story

In 2022, I stepped into motherhood for the first time, excited, hopeful, and ready to give my best. But it didn't take long before joy met reality. My body changed, fatigue crept in, moods swung, and discomfort replaced the vibrant energy I once had.

Like many new mothers, I turned to other mums for advice, but the information was often conflicting. Online resources, though abundant, felt generalized, overwhelming, and scattered. Even as a public health researcher and epidemiologist, navigating trustworthy information took hours, time, and energy I didn't have, plus doctor visits required long travel and hours of waiting in line, which sometimes I did not have energy for.

Then came childbirth. The sleepless nights, the emotional chaos, the guilt, the overwhelming responsibility of a tiny life depending solely on me. Breastfeeding brought moments of joy, but also pain and emotional emptiness I couldn't voice, fearing I'd be seen as weak. Eventually, I slipped into postpartum depression.

As I began asking other mothers about their experiences, I realized my story was not unique; it was the story of thousands of women across Rwanda and beyond.
